About Red Cedar
Commonly known as Aromatic Red Cedar this wood has a strong and distinctive cedar aroma. The wood is soft with a fine even texture. Aromatic Red Cedar is very slow growing and most trees harvested tend to be small in diameter so the boards as a result are often narrow and knotty.
Common Names: Red Cedar, Aromatic Red Cedar, Eastern Red Cedar, Red Juniper, Juniperus virginiana.
Origin: Eastern United States.
Color: Light reddish or violet brown with pale yellow or white streaks.
General Workability: Aromatic Red Cedar is easy to cut and work with although the knots may present some difficulties. Laser engraves and cuts very well. Red Cedar glues, and finishes well though you may choose to leave it unfinished to preserve it's aromatic properties.
